The in-form Toffees have moved nine points clear of the Premier League relegation zone after winning three straight games under David Moyes.

Everton's boss wanted additions to the squad in the winter window, with the need for reinforcement only heightened when Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Orel Mangala sustained serious injuries in a 1-0 win at Brighton on January 25.

However, Everton were only able to get one deal over the line, with Alcaraz joining until the end of the season and the Toffees holding an option to buy.

Brazilian champions Flamengo subsequently paid a club-record fee to sign the midfielder at the end of last season, though Alcaraz was unable to establish himself as a regular starter.
