The in-form Toffees have moved nine points clear of the Premier League relegation zone after winning three straight games under David Moyes.

Everton's boss wanted additions to the squad in the winter window, with the need for reinforcement only heightened when Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Orel Mangala sustained serious injuries in a 1-0 win at Brighton on January 25.

However, Everton were only able to get one deal over the line, with Alcaraz joining until the end of the season and the Toffees holding an option to buy.

Alcaraz, 22, previously featured in the Premier League for Southampton, joining the Saints in January 2023 and making his debut against Everton.

He scored four league goals, though could not help Southampton avoid relegation. After impressing in the Championship in the first half of last season, Alcaraz joined Juventus on loan, and featured 11 times for the Serie A giants.

Brazilian champions Flamengo subsequently paid a club-record fee to sign the midfielder at the end of last season, though Alcaraz was unable to establish himself as a regular starter.

"We're happy Carlos has agreed to join us on loan until the end of the season,aaajili" said Moyes. "We've been looking to add players to the squad to give us more depth, particularly after the recent injuries we've picked up.
